Christine Thammavongsa

A lifelong gardener and naturalist, my work draws directly from this innate affinity for natural materials resulting in artistic expression that emphasizes the tactile surface qualities of traditional paint media, graphic instruments and found materials. Layered elements infuse my paintings and assemblages with unexpected meanings arising from sometimes happenstance juxtapositions. Due to my extensive background in digital design, technology-sourced components and salvaged elements from past design projects are creeping on to the canvas in harmony or contrast as the case may be. Subject matter often emerges spontaneously from deep sub-conscious venues with a personal exploration of connection to the universe, memories, ancestry, healing and relationships gradually emerging to the forefront.
